Oral Sedation Dentistry
With oral sedation dentistry, Dr. Slater will prescribe a pill that you take, typically about an hour before you come in for your dental visit. By the time you arrive, you will feel relaxed and comfortable. This pill is not given for sleep dentistry, but you may feel drowsy and not remember much of the procedure. You will be aware but unconcerned that you are receiving any dental treatment. With oral sedation dentistry treatment, you will need to arrange a ride to and from the office of your sedation dentist.
Nitrous oxide is a sedation dentistry method that has been used effectively for decades. Often called “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide does not give you a fit of the giggles. This sedation dentistry method simply causes you to relax. You are still awake and aware during your treatment. Nitrous oxide is administered by your sedation dentist who will put a mask on your nose. Through the mask you receive a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. One of the nice benefits about this sedation dentistry method is it is quick to become effective (starting with a few minutes) and wears off quickly so you do not need to get a ride to and from your appointment.
Dr. Slater is happy to offer you these methods of dental sedation to help you feel relaxed and make the most of your visits. When you use this type of treatment, you are so relaxed that he can offer do several different dental procedures in one visit. This saves you precious time.
